Continuing Education Credits

Through services offered by Global Campus, K-State can offer distance education courses, degree programs, microcredentials, and continuing education (CE) hours for trainings to business and industry professionals for successful completion noncredit learning opportunities.

Global Campus is authorized to issue CE hours from the university. The primary purpose of CE hours is to provide a record of noncredit professional activities for professionals needing contact hours to meet licensure or accrediting requirements.

Global Campus resources are available to provide guidance and to assist faculty with reviewing and approving programs requesting K-State CE hours and to administer and issue CE hours to individuals who successfully complete program requirements.

Continuing education hours are not awarded for academic credit. Continuing education requirements vary from state to state and by profession. It is the responsibility of individuals earning K-State continuing education hours to verify with their licensing or accrediting body that the hours will be accepted.

Kansas State University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Requirements for offering K-State continuing education credits

Noncredit programs offered for K-State continuing education hours verify that:

educational content is provided by one or more subject matter experts from K-State, or
content and instructional provider(s) have been reviewed and approved by K-State subject matter experts.

The department or organization seeking hours must submit an approval request form with the following information required for consideration of K-State continuing education hours:

program/curriculum outline or schedule
learning objectives and method of assessment
curriculum vitas or bios for instructors or presenters
ADA compliance
CE hours requested based on instructional content

K-State subject matter experts will review program content and the qualifications of the instructors/presenters and make a recommendation for approval of K-State CE hours. Global Campus will make the final determination regarding approval. Feedback is provided to the sponsoring organization when continuing education approval is denied.

The program outline or schedule is reviewed to calculate the appropriate number of instructional hours. Continuing education hours are awarded for instructional content only. Breaks, meals, social or promotional activities, and business and committee meetings are not considered instructional content.

Confirmation that the program is ADA compliant is required for all programs seeking K-State CE hours.

Awarding credit for continuing education activities varies from state to state. It is the responsibility of individuals earning K-State CE hours to verify with their state accrediting body that the hours will be accepted.

Are there fees associated with K-State continuing education hours?

Yes. If your organization or association is not affiliated with Kansas State University and/or your program is not being coordinated through Global Campus, there will be a charge for reviewing the program application to offer continuing education hours. The fee varies based on the complexity of the program. If your program is approved for K-State continuing education hours, there is an administrative fee for program management and a per person fee for issuing the certificate of continuing education and maintaining the record of continuing education activity in university systems.

Program Setup Fees:

$180 for university-sponsored programs
$244 for external (non-university) programs

Continuing Education Administration:

$22/participant for university-sponsored programs
$30/participant for external (non-university) programs
