Kansas State University Global Campus offers both a graduate certificate and a master’s degree to students looking to start a career focusing on the aging process and how it relates to people. The two online graduate-level programs in Gerontology are designed to prepare students planning to work directly with older people or who will be involved in education or research related to aging issues.

Graduate Certificate in Gerontology

The gerontology graduate certificate program is designed for those seeking a credential in gerontology that don’t need a master’s degree. The program is also a good head start for those who wish to continue their education into the master’s degree.

The program prepares students to work directly with older people, whether it’s the management of a senior-living facility or counseling older people and their families.

Master's Degree in Gerontology

Also aimed at those seeking to work with older people, the master’s degree draws upon the expertise of graduate faculty and graduate courses from several universities within the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA).

Those completing the program will earn a master’s degree in family studies and human services with a specialization in gerontology.

What can I do with this degree?

Graduates of the gerontology programs at K-State could pursue careers in:

  • health promotion programs
  • directing intergenerational activities
  • managing senior centers or retirement communities
  • counseling older people and their families
  • helping people plan for retirement

Student Success Video

“When I compared programs in gerontology nationally and what was available online, I found that the Great Plains IDEA program took the best talent of professors from various universities and highlighted their specific specialty in the gerontology courses they taught.

“I have such high regard for this program. I don’t see anything out there that comes close.”
