2017 NUTN Learner Recognition Award

Nathan Smit
Smit, a 2008 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in food science, was nominated by K-State Global Campus based on his impressive professional achievements since earning his degree. Since graduation, he has been promoted four times at Hormel Foods Corporation, where he has worked since before going back to school, and continues to climb the corporate ladder.
NUTN is an organization designed to offer higher education institutions a networking and professional development arena for the advancement of teaching and learning, with an emphasis in best utilizing technology.

Kayla Savage
Savage graduated in May 2017 while managing a full-time job, numerous volunteer responsibilities and family life during her time as a student with a 4.0 GPA.

Plaschka was recognized because of her dedication to the completion of her degree, full-time job, and family with five children.
2016 UPCEA National Outstanding Professional, Continuing and/or Online Education Student Award

Jackie Wilson-Schau
Wilson-Schau won the student award at the UPCEA National conference after winning at the regional level in 2015. Wilson-Schau finished her undergraduate work with a 4.0 GPA and recently graduated with a master's in academic advising in spring 2017, also from K-State Global Campus.

Douglas Chun
Chun, online master's student in engineering management, received the Extraordinary Student Award. This award is given to a currently enrolled distance student who has overcome obstacles in their educational path and demonstrates academic excellence, focus and career ambition.
