2018 UPCEA Central Region Excellence in Teaching

Huston Gibson

Huston Gibson

Gibson won the Excellence in Teaching award for his work with K-State’s online community development program, which offers both a graduate certificate and master’s degree. The program is a part of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA), a consortium of Midwest universities, and Gibson directs K-State’s program in addition to his work as associate professor within the College of Architecture, Planning & Design’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning.

Sarah Reasoner

Reasoner won the Outstanding Support Specialist Award for her role as a creator and facilitator of online courses within the College of Agriculture. She also advises nondegree students within the college and is a valuable resource for students within the college as the in-house expert at navigating the typical issues students face when studying online.

Sue Williams

L. Sue Williams is an associate professor in the department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work and a member of the joint faculty for the Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies department at Kansas State University.

Colleague 2 Colleague, a professional association of faculty, staff and administrators from a variety of Kansas and Missouri institutions, aims to share technology expertise, resources and training in the region with a special emphasis on distance education and instructional technology.

Ashley Nietfeld

Ashley Nietfeld, communications and marketing specialist for Global Campus, won a pair of continuing education awards for her work on a variety of projects, most notably her lead role in implementing a new customer relationship management system, Talisma, while directing the messaging efforts the system utilizes to communicate with prospective students.

The award recognizes an online instructor or faculty member who has provided outstanding online teaching, course development, mentoring of students and service to the field of continuing education.

Reasoner works with faculty to create new courses and update existing on-campus courses for online delivery. She also facilitates several online courses and is a direct contact for both students and faculty experiencing technical problems with their online courses. Reasoner also was instrumental in realizing a need and developing a system for test proctoring within her department.

Theresa Toler

Toler, a student employee in the K-State Global Campus academic and professional programs office, received the K-State Global Campus Star Student Award. The award recognizes a student employee who consistently goes above and beyond the requirements of their position to make meaningful and positive contributions to K-State Global Campus. Toler is a senior from St. Marys majoring in accounting. In her four years at K-State Global Campus, she has consistently shown a positive attitude, dependability, and the ability to work independently and effectively.
