Financial Planning

Kansas State University's online financial planning programs are board certified, can lead to licensure eligibility for professional designations or enhance expertise in specialized areas.

By incorporating a human dimension and emphasizing how money management affects families and their futures, the programs prepare graduates for rewarding careers helping individuals and families manage their money.

Personal Financial Planning

Bachelor’s Degree

The personal financial planning bachelor's degree combines an emphasis on understanding financial products and how they work, as well as the role of family in financial decisions. Courses in family relationships and decision making, consumer rights, insurance, investments and more help build a solid foundation that prepares students to thrive in this high-growth profession. Students who complete the program are eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

Doctoral Program

The award-winning personal financial planning doctoral program is one of only five doctoral programs in the nation registered with the Certified Financial Planner® Board. The program is conducted largely online, with intensive 10-day summer residency sessions on campus. Students who complete the program are eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

Financial Therapy

Graduate Certificate

The financial therapy graduate certificate is the first of its kind to provide graduate-level educational training for improving financial well-being from a holistic perspective. It integrates relational, behavioral, cognitive and emotional elements with personal finance.

What can I do with this degree?

Currently, financial therapy is an unregulated field and, therefore, educational training in the area does not lead to certification or licensure as a therapist, counselor or planner. Students can use the certificate to enhance expertise and become more marketable in the specialized area of financial therapy to pursue careers in:

  • Personal and family financial planning
  • Psychology
  • Mental health programs
