The New Chair Alliance connects and supports new chairs through a pre-conference workshop followed by guided times of interaction and reflection throughout the conference. When you register for the New Chair Alliance your registration fee will guarantee three full days of networking and learning.

This new e-publication is filled with advice and encouragement that no new chair should be without. Published by the same people who bring us, it will be made available to registered participants long before the conference begins.

Academic Chairpersons Conference Proceedings CDs


The conference proceedings CD is a compilation of the papers, panels, workshops, and roundtables presented at the conference. It includes electronic presentations and written papers from the presenters. Participants will receive last year's and this year's CD! Some hot topics new chairs might find interesting include: fundraising, legal issues, facilitating change, assessment, leadership strategies, and many more!

New Chair Alliance participants will receive the CD from 2012 while at the 2013 conference. The 2013 proceedings will be mailed at a later date.

Dr. Daniel Wheeler
Professor Emeritus of Leadership Studies Former Dept. Head
University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Wheeler Daniel (Dan) W. Wheeler is Professor Emeritus of Leadership Studies and former Head of the Department of Ag Leadership, Education and Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also serves as a Chair Coach with the IDEA Center. Previously he was Coordinator of the Office of Professional and Organizational Development at Nebraska. He has degrees from Antioch College, Cornell and SUNYAB. Dr. Wheeler has made numerous contributions to faculty development, chairing departments and leadership. He is author of the the 2012 Jossey-Bass book titled Servant Leadership for Higher Education: Principles and Practices.

Dr. Katherine Frank
Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of English
Indiana University East

WheelerKatherine Frank is Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of English at Indiana University East. She served as Director of the Southern Colorado Writing Project from 2003 through 2011 and continues to serve on leadership committees for the National Writing Project. Her composition textbook, (Re)actions: Affecting Change through Inquiry-Based Writing, was published by Fountainhead Press in January 2011. In addition to celebrating several other recent publications, Dr. Frank has presented her research at conferences all over the world including Poland, Great Britain, and throughout the United States.
