The Leading Edge” is published online five times each year to help distance students develop a connection with K-State, even if they never get to come to the Manhattan campus. Each issue provides information about university services, faculty and staff, campus events, and other information valuable to all Wildcats, near or far.

K-State Develops New 2+2 Partnership with Fort Scott Community College

Kansas State University and Fort Scott Community College recently formed a 2+2 partnership and developed their first 2+2 agreement.

The agreement allows students in the Fort Scott area to remain in their community while obtaining a K-State bachelor’s degree. Students can earn an associate degree in general business from Fort Scott and then transfer the credits to K-State to earn a bachelor’s in general business through distance education. - Full story

K-State Student Earns Food Science Bachelor’s Degree Online, Carves Out Niche in Food Science Industry

The food science industry can be demanding. For young professionals, getting ahead may mean going back to school, and that’s just what Nathan Smit did through Kansas State University’s online bachelor’s degree in food science.

Smit, Albert Lea, Minn., said he was always interested in science, but the nearest food science program was hours away. He earned an associate degree from Riverland Community College, where he studied to be an environmental lab technician. After three years of food testing at Tyson Foods in Albert Lea, Smit transitioned to Hormel Foods in Austin, Minn., where he found himself surrounded by K-State alumni. – Full story
